Columbia University Libraries seek an energetic, creative, and
collaborative individual for the position of Special Collections Librarian. Reporting to the Curator of Avery Classics, the Special Collections Librarian will oversee cataloging and metadata development, as well as coordination of retrospective conversion and digital projects for rare books and ephemera in Avery Library's architectural rare books collection. The Special Collections Librarian will also facilitate use and interpretation of the Avery Classics collection by working with individual researchers and faculty, supporting reference and reader services and course-integrated instruction. Qualifications (Required) * MLS, PhD or equivalent degree * Experience or advanced knowledge of architectural special collections * Knowledge of best practices for intellectual and physical control of collections * Experience providing patrons services in a special collections environment * Knowledge of MARC and non-MARC metadata schema, LCSH and FAST subject headings * Proven ability to work with multiple cataloging and metadata content standards and controlled vocabularies * Strong organizational and teamwork skills; strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills * Related experience working in a library or academic setting * Knowledge of at least one Western European language in addition to English * Commitment to supporting and working in a diverse environment Qualifications (Preferred) * Familiarity with Voyager ILS * Familiarity with OCLC WorldCat * Experience in development of online digital projects, and * Familiarity with digital exhibition platforms such as OMEKA The Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library is one of the most comprehensive architecture and fine arts library collections in the world.
