This inclusive guide covers many aspects of diabetes, including the definition, history and types of diabetes as well as medical treatments for this condition. In addition, readers can learn how to take charge of their diagnosis with diet tips and suggestions about exercise, hygiene, stress management, traveling.  The book also covers complications that can arise when living with diabetes. The last chapter presents a listing of organizations and associations that serve those with diabetes in addition to important websites and books. The appendices contain a personalized meal plan guide appropriate for photocopying.
 
The book is written in language that is easy to follow and contains a treasure trove of basic and helpful information for those who suffer from diabetes. The section on diet contains helpful lists of foods that are beneficial and those to stay away from.   Portions and serving sizes are explained for different types of foods, and sample meals plans are explained.  The authors are members of the American Diabetes Association.

An essential addition to any public health and medical collection for Spanish-speaking patrons, this title is highly recommended
